Tobacco Industry - Feb 2007

In Feb 07, information was received on a container shipped out from China which may contain counterfeit brands of our client’s products.

Our cargo specialists carried out intensive and close monitoring to prevent diversion of the shipment. Due to excellent law enforcement contacts, the container was swiftly intercepted.

The container was manifested as apparel. However, the inspection led to the seizure of 980 shipping cases of counterfeit cigarettes which infringed on our client’s trademarks.

 Market value of product seized amounted to USD 3.6 million while local total taxes involved amounted to USD 2.4 million.

Alerts were also sent to regional law enforcement contacts and logistics sources in South East Asian countries to target containers with similar shipping identifiers for inspection.

Electronics Industry - Oct 2006

In Oct 06, through industry sources and investigation using latest link analysis and intelligence support software, a target company was identified to be dealing in products infringing on our client’s trademarks.

An operative made an attempt to purchase a sample product which was delivered. All the documentation and financial trail was properly recorded.

Client subsequently engaged legal counsel to bring the errant company to task for importing, distributing and trading in trademark infringed products.

More counterfeit products and packaging were found at the targeted company when a visit was carried out by client’s legal counsel and the relevant local trademarks enforcement authority.

Automobile Parts Industry - Mar 2006

In Feb 06, our client, who produces world renowned line of German origin luxury cars suspected that auto-parts and packaging bearing their trademarks could be fake. 

With client’s assistance, an industry scan of suppliers of auto parts was carried out. Several suspected rogue traders were identified.

Focus investigations were carried out into the targeted companies with emphasis on their trade patterns and their supply chain.

In Mar 06, pretext purchases were made and confirmed that some of the traders identified were dealing in counterfeited parts and packaging.

In-depth investigations revealed that goods originated from China and Thailand were being imported into Singapore and subsequently re-exported to as far as Dubai and other parts of Middle East.

Clients subsequently followed up with legal actions against purchasers and dealers of counterfeited auto-parts and packaging at the various affected markets.

Pharmaceutical Industry - Aug 2005

IIn Aug 05, our client, who produces one of the world’s renowned erectile dysfunction pill, came to know of a Singapore entity dealing in counterfeit pills over the internet.

Pretext approaches were carried out over the internet. Through a series of on-line transactions, the identity and banking facilities of the Singapore entity were established.

Experienced field professionals carried out covert surveillance and managed to establish the modus operandi of the Singapore entity.

Based on the evidence gathered, client proceeded with legal actions against the Singapore entity.
